The Grapes and Grain Experience 2022 Season

Booking now for 2022!

The Grapes and Grain Experience is a perfect harmony of Pelee Island’s most significantly historic locations situated amongst the unique ecological landscape; Vin Villa, focusing on grapes and winemaking history, and Stone House 1891 focusing on the history of alcohol trade and modern-day craft beer. This full-day tour consists of a light meal, complimentary beer, and wine tastings, and travel on the open-air Dolly the Trolley.

Lunch and Tour of Stone House 1891

Begin with enjoying a light meal, beer tasting, and a historical tour of Stone House 1891. Steeped in rich history dating back to the prohibition era, Stone House 1891 has had a wide array of uses over the years. During your experience through the Stone House 1891, you will learn of all the modern, recycled, and sustainable upgrades. This includes the 180-degree wood-burning oven that has made the Stone House the newest and most unique dining experience on the island! If we are lucky we may even have a couple of guest speakers visit us throughout the tour that could include the current Chef and a McCormick family descendant that lived in the Stone House as a child.

Travel back in time with Dolly the Trolley!

The second part of the Grapes and Grain experience kicks off with the feeling of traveling back in time as you ride on Dolly the Trolley, the unique open-air island trolley! Dolley the trolley begins navigating the small group tour down the West Shore Rd towards Vin Villa for the “Behind The Gates- Vin Villa Tour”. Vin Villa is Canada’s most historically significant and first commercial estate winery.

Vin Villa- "Behind the Gates"

While walking along with the lakefront property, you will learn about Vin Villa’s significant wine-making history, including the founding family who built the wine cellar and home.  It is here, that you have your first look, feel, and appreciation of history when you touch the 150 yr old limestone ruins that remain today!  Rated Pelee Island's #1 Tour, be prepared to be amazed at the architectural craftsmanship that surrounds you as you descend below ground in the meticulously restored wine cellars. Sip on a sampling of Pelee Island wine as you admire the 40ft chandelier and solid timber table that can host up to 28 guests.

As the tour slowly makes its way back to the ferry dock, you will pass through the heart of the island. It is here that rests the artistic rebuild of the iconic Mission Hall. Enchanted time at The Sanctuary will leave one's soul nourished and inspired. You will also pass by the Vineyards of Pelee Island Winery!
